About The Position

The Designer at Liebherr Mining Equipment Newport News Co. is responsible for creating designs, 3D models, and drawings for mining haul trucks. This role requires a high level of design expertise and initiative, as the Designer analyzes both new and existing products to resolve design issues in manufacturing and assembly. The position involves collaboration with Engineers and other Designers to ensure that products meet cost targets and technical specifications while adhering to project timelines.

Requirements

• Associate Degree (A.S/A.A.S.) or equivalent combination of education and relevant design experience.
• Working knowledge of 3D model-based design/drafting techniques, practices, dimensioning, and tolerance.
• Ability to read schematics, operating and maintenance manuals, and procedure manuals.
• Knowledge of engineering procedures and standards.
• Minimal oversight needed to complete tasks accurately and timely.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of relevant drafting tools or computer-assisted design (CAD) equipment and software.
• Working knowledge of Creo design/drafting techniques.
• Ability to use Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of the ERP system related to truck BOM structure and inventory control.

Responsibilities

• Draft detailed drawings of assemblies, subassemblies, installations, and piece parts in 2D & 3D CAD packages.
• Modify designs to correct operating deficiencies.
• Prepare Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and other engineering documentation.
• Investigate engineering design/production problems and initiate appropriate action.
• Promote effective interdepartmental communications for joint design projects.
• Work with Engineers to design, install, test, analyze, and maintain truck components, equipment, systems, and processes.
• Prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs) within the Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) system.
• Ensure compliance with quality assurance requirements.
