POSITION OVERVIEW: The Design Technology Lead provides centralized governance, customization, and strategic oversight of QISG's 2D, 3D, Protection & Control (P&C), and structural design environments. This role establishes enterprise and client-specific standards, develops intelligent and automated workflows, and ensures alignment between drawings, models, and fabrication outputs. This position is responsible for advancing digital design capabilities, improving efficiency through automation, and supporting scalable, compliant delivery across Substation and T-Line.

Requirements

  • Advanced proficiency in one of the following AutoCAD Electrical for Protection & Controls, AutoCAD, or 3D design environments (Inventor and Revit preferred).
  • Experience supporting or configuring P4A, P4I, PnC or similar design/configuration platforms, including rule-based or logic-driven environments.
  • Proficient in developing and applying automation (e.g., LISP, scripting, macros, or similar tools) to improve design efficiency.
  • Proven ability to independently define, troubleshoot, and implement technical solutions with minimal oversight.
  • Practical experience translating design requirements into workable standards, templates, or workflows.
  • Strong independent problem-solving and initiative.
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new tools or platforms.
  • Practical, solution-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to bridge design, drafting, and technology.
  • Focus on efficiency, standardization, and continuous improvement.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Advance Steel or similar structural modeling/detailing platforms.
  • Experience creating or deploying CAD templates, workspaces and profiles, and symbol/block libraries.
  • Exposure to client-specific CAD standards implementation.
  • Experience supporting or mentoring drafters/designers in improving workflows and tool usage.
  • Experience contributing to training materials, documentation, or knowledge sharing initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain enterprise-wide 2D, 3D, P&C, and structural design standards.
  • Translate client CAD standards into controlled templates, title blocks, layer structures, symbol libraries, and workspace configurations.
  • Create and deploy standardized CAD profiles and controlled environments to prevent client standard cross-contamination.
  • Align drawing, modeling, and intelligent configuration practices across disciplines.
  • Configure and optimize platforms including AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, 3D modeling platforms (Inventor and Revit), and Advance Steel.
  • Develop and maintain LISP routines, scripts, macros, and automation tools that improve drafting and modeling efficiency.
  • Support configuration and rule engine development within P4A and related systems.
  • Identify repetitive workflows and implement scalable automation solutions.
  • Develop intelligent and parametric content including reusable assemblies, symbol libraries, logic patterns, and standardized modeling components.
  • Ensure design outputs support quantities and BOM generation, fabrication coordination, and efficient revisions and lifecycle management.
  • Develop and deliver formal training for P4A, P4I, AutoCAD Electrical, and Advance Steel.
  • Create role-based training paths and workflow documentation.
  • Replace tribal knowledge with standardized, repeatable practices.
  • Mentor 2D drafters and 3D modelers to improve efficiency and standards compliance.
  • Serve as first-line escalation for complex design tool issues.
  • Support project teams with advanced configuration and workflow optimization.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and automation.
  • Partner with design leadership to align technology strategy with business objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Review all CAD projects to ensure proper CAD Standards are being utilized.
