A Design Technician IV is an advanced technical professional who plays a key role in engineering, manufacturing, or product development teams. This position is responsible for preparing complex engineering drawings, layouts, and schematics using advanced CAD software, often working on detailed parts, assemblies, and system-level designs. Design Technician IVs operate with minimal supervision and frequently serve as a resource for less-experienced technicians, providing guidance and informal training when needed. They collaborate closely with engineers and project managers to ensure that all designs meet required specifications, standards, and project deadlines. In addition to drafting, they are involved in investigating and resolving design and fabrication issues, recommending improvements, and maintaining thorough documentation to comply with company and regulatory standards. They may also assist in building prototypes or conducting tests to validate design concepts. Typically, this role requires several years of relevant experience, advanced proficiency with CAD tools, strong engineering knowledge, and excellent attention to detail. Design Technician IVs are valued for their technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and strong teamwork and communication skills. Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing and field service operations.
  • Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools, such as CAD, CAM, CATIA, ProEngineer, Solidworx or Siemens NX Software.
  • Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal.
  • Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications.
  • Requires minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Requires high school diploma or equivalent (United States), vocational or technical education or certification (all other countries).
  • Medical device industry experience

  • CREO CAD experience
  • Green Belt Certification
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification
  • CAM experience
  • Vericut simulation experience
