About The Position

Transportation Engineer Tech I Performs basic design work and calculations. Performs field work; uses automated systems. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer and registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details. Transportation Engineer Tech II Performs intermediate design work and calculations; performs field work; uses automated systems and learns specialized procedures. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer and registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Safety Impact Certificate
  • Basic roadway design
  • Applicable engineering workstations and applications to support efficient planning and design activities
  • Applicable surveying procedures, standards, and instruments
  • Building construction and contractor field procedures
  • Writing and revising standards and procedures
  • Performing basic design and drafting
  • Training in a classroom, office, or field environment
  • Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems
  • Follow verbal and written instructions
  • Intermediate design and hand and computer-aided drafting procedures
  • Performing intermediate drafting

Responsibilities

  • Prepares field notes
  • Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps
  • Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
  • Performs basic design work
  • Performs advanced drafting and calculations in support of design activities, develops graphic presentations that include distinctive design features
  • Performs intermediate design work
  • Prepares environmental documents
  • Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications
  • Schedules, coordinates and prepares documents for public hearings
  • Writes general notes, specifications and provisions
