About The Position

We're looking for a Design Systems specialist to rebuild Sendwave's design foundation with one clear goal: making our design system fully legible to AI. This isn't just a library refresh, it's a structural investment in how AI agents, copilots, and design-to-code tools read and interpret our components. You'll be the architect of a system that serves both human designers and the AI tooling our engineering team relies on daily. If you obsess over semantic structure, token logic, and the intersection of design systems with modern AI-assisted development, this role was built for you.

Requirements

  • Expert-level Figma skills with proven experience building and shipping complex design systems, specifically using Variables, Modes, Multi-edit, and advanced component architecture.
  • Demonstrated understanding of how AI coding tools (Copilot, Cursor, V0, Figma AI, or similar) consume design system data and how to structure a library to maximise their accuracy and usefulness.
  • Strong grasp of front-end fundamentals: design tokens, CSS variables, component states, and API design. You don't need to write production code, but you should be fluent in engineering language.
  • Experience designing for machine readability (semantic naming, structured metadata, token hierarchies) ideally with exposure to design-to-code or AI-assisted development workflows.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity: you can identify high-leverage structural decisions quickly and avoid over-engineering in a fast-moving environment.
  • Portfolio or case studies that show measurable impact; for example reduced handoff friction, faster design cycles, or concrete examples of AI tooling working better because of how the system was structured.

Responsibilities

  • Audit and rebuild the Sendwave library with machine readability as a first-class requirement. That includes semantic naming, structured metadata, and a token taxonomy (color, typography, spacing) that maps directly to variables and components.
  • Build a Figma → Code workflow that keeps design and production code in sync, and prototype at least one end-to-end AI-assisted workflow the team can adopt after the contract ends.
  • Partner with Engineering to align components so AI tools can traverse design and code counterparts predictably.
  • Build "smart" components using Figma Properties, Nested Instances, and Auto Layout 5.0. All components should be structured for both designer usability and AI interpretability.
  • Establish a lightweight component lifecycle process (versioning, deprecation, release notes) without over-engineering.
  • Write living documentation focused on the why behind decisions, including AI-readability notes, so the system stays coherent as it evolves.
  • Coach the design team on maintaining AI-legibility as the library grows.

Benefits

  • unlimited annual leave
  • great healthcare benefits
  • employee discounts
