PURPOSE Assists the Design Manager in overseeing the work of the design team ensuring drawings are error free and completed on time. Schedules work assignments. Reviews and approve drawings. Trains new designers.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Oversees the work of employees that are using computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering and design tasks. Supervises daily layout of design work performed and ensures timely completion. Originates and checks layout and design drawings for structural wood products manufactured or supplied by the company. Reviews new orders and estimates completion time. Assigns appropriate design personnel to complete the work.Sets design pricing. Assists the truss technician to ensure the products supplied satisfy the goals of a Builders FirstSource design department – ensuring correct geometry, structural integrity, and economy.Records and tracks design errors per company policy. Holds meetings with designers to discuss any design issues and reach a solution to avoid errors in the future.Performs some layout and design work daily. Reviews the lead times of the design office and coordinates shifting of design work with other designers when required. Communicates with contractors, company sales representatives, and building designers as required to obtain information for timely drawing completion. Administers new employee training to ensure familiarity with company products and processes. Reviews work that is generated.Other duties may be assigned. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Supervises assigned employees including staff selection and training; planning, assigning and directing work; conducting performance reviews; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Provide leadership and guidance to coach, motivate, and lead team members to their optimum performance levels and career development. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school;Or two (2) years related experience and/or training;Or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous supervisory and design experience required. Level 3 design certification required.
