About The Position

The Design Review Architect will report to the Associate Director of Design in the Facilities Design and Construction department within the Division of Facilities. This role involves assisting in the design review and approval process for various projects, ensuring they align with the university's mission, vision, strategic goals, and initiatives. The architect will also focus on enhancing accessibility on the physical campus and provide guidance on campus design principles and the Design and Construction Standards Manual during project meetings and document reviews.

Requirements

• Advanced degree in Architecture, or Bachelor of Architecture with equivalent work experience.
• Registration as a Professional Architect, with current registration in Virginia or ability to obtain it within 12 months of employment.
• Minimum of five years' experience as an architect.
• Understanding of Historic Preservation and The Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation.
• Valid driver's license.
• Proficiency with current office computer software including word processing and spreadsheets, and design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite).

Nice To Haves

• Experience working in a university setting.
• Experience with Commonwealth of Virginia directives and higher education facilities requirements.
• Knowledge of preservation architecture and proficiency in accessible design.
• Understanding of sustainability initiatives and experience with LEED accredited projects.
• Familiarity with AIM project management software.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Associate Director of Design in the design review and approval process for minor modifications, non-capital, and capital projects.
• Work towards enhancing accessibility related to the physical campus.
• Provide guidance on campus design principles and the Design and Construction Standards Manual to design consultants and university user groups during project meetings and document reviews.
