The Role We are seeking experienced, motivated Design Release Engineers to support the next generation of industry-leading Vehicle Structure and Suspension System Engineering Design and Development. We’re committed to enhancing the product – with new features, new materials, and new technologies across the spectrum of engineering subsystems. To do this, we need forward-looking, innovative engineers who can help shape the future. These product engineering positions involve responsibility for all activities - including definition of requirements, execution of design, and validation and testing throughout a vehicle’s lifecycle. These roles require an experienced engineer to lead and drive a cross functional product development team. In addition, they require collaboration with peers in the creative design, purchasing, manufacturing, and quality functions. The ideal candidate is one who desires to build their technical depth as an engineer within the engineering enterprise. This candidate possesses exemplary communication, project management skills, and is a passionate, hard-working person who enjoys taking on challenges and following through with robust solutions. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering
  • 2+ years engineering experience

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or other Advanced Degree
  • Proven knowledge with engineering design in one or more of the following areas Body / Chassis Structure and Suspension components
  • Familiarity with Design For Six Sigma process
  • Experience with DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
  • Knowledge of advanced high strength alloy materials, processes, and tooling
  • Knowledge of FMVSS Crash regulations and GM Technical Specifications

Responsibilities

  • Generate and execute technical solutions to support new vehicle programs
  • Provide technical leadership for advanced component or technology development
  • Perform complex design analysis and evaluating engineering designs
  • Work cross-functionally to implement cost reduction, methods and product improvements, and to support prototype and production build activities
  • Balance business imperatives, including but not limited to cost, mass, complexity, and timing through production engineering design release
  • Communicate information to and from internal and external customer organizations
  • Stay abreast of relevant new technology and competitive products
  • Develop and apply new and existing technologies
  • Develop and coordinate component design and systems with manufacturing, analysis, other vehicle subsystems, vehicle development, safety, customers, and other functions
  • Component and subsystem integrity and compliance to GM technical and quality standards throughout the vehicle’s life cycle
  • Work independently with ability to summarize complex issues for leadership
