This role is categorized as hybrid. The successful candidate is expected to report to their primary location three times per week, at minimum, or other frequency dictated by the business. The position involves engineering and releasing passive safety products, integrating sensing devices into vehicle subsystems, and maintaining technical documentation. The candidate will work cross-functionally within GM and coordinate with multiple suppliers, leading the resolution of technical issues and hardware validation.

  • Engineer and release passive safety products including Automatic Occupant Sensing (AOS), sensing and diagnostic module (SDM), electronic satellite sensors (ESS), and pedestrian protection sensors (PPS).
  • Integrate sensing devices into the vehicle subsystems including seating.
  • Create and maintain Interface Control Design (ICD) strategy and ICD templates.
  • Develop & Maintain commodity specific documentation.
  • Generate and Maintain Global subsystem/component technical specifications templates.
  • Lead resolution of technical issues and hardware validation.
  • Close the Loop on learnings by updating required information (Best Practices, GM Specifications, Statement of Requirements, Template, etc.) and document progress in Problem Resolution Tracking System.
  • Work cross-functionally within GM, coordinating multiple suppliers.
  • Lead/manage supplier resident engineers.
  • Generate technical solutions for current, new and major programs.
  • Perform complex design analysis.
  • Initiate documents to provide engineering authority and to maintain math/CAD data.
  • Work with engineering functions, suppliers, plant personnel and others to implement cost reduction, methods and product improvements, and to support build programs.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related Engineering degree.
  • 5+ years of industry experience.
  • Knowledge of microcontroller architectures, memory technologies, and programming.
  • High level understanding of hardware design and failure modes in electronic modules.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in writing and comprehending electrical hardware requirements.
  • High level knowledge of hardware verification/validation processes.
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult.
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related Engineering field.
  • 10+ years of related work experience.
  • DFMEA training.
  • Engineering Change Management experience.
  • Electronic Validation experience.
  • Passive Safety/Crash Test Experience.
  • Hardware Controls/Electrical Architecture or wiring experience.
  • DFSS Black Belt Certification.
  • Design/Development of Safety Critical Systems/Components.
