About The Position

The Design Manager at Advocate Health is responsible for developing the structure and directing the daily operations of a comprehensive real estate services program. This role involves creating procedures, policies, and tools for managing Advocate Aurora's real estate, enabling sound decision-making regarding lease, buy, or sell opportunities. The Design Manager will oversee lease management, conduct real estate financial analysis, and perform due diligence, while also engaging in strategic planning and evaluation of the entire Advocate Aurora real estate portfolio. Recommendations will be presented in advance of lease expirations to ensure optimal management of the real estate assets. In addition to real estate management, the Design Manager will manage projects related to new construction, renovation, and remodeling. This includes facility planning, programming, project budget development, and schedule assistance in collaboration with department directors. The role also encompasses legal agreements and contracts, architectural and engineering planning and design, project management, code compliance, and wayfinding/signage planning. The Design Manager will participate in team selection, fee negotiations, and the definition of project programs, while also supporting Certificate of Need applications and overseeing the development and review of drawings and specifications. The Design Manager will work closely with project teams to ensure success in developing detailed schedules for planning and design, collaborating with departments to achieve Proforma targets. This role will supplement construction and finance teams by assisting contractors in preparing construction cost estimates at key milestones in the design phase. Furthermore, the Design Manager will play a crucial role in creating and structuring the new system-wide Planning and Design Division, taking direct responsibility for service-line improvements, product development, process improvement strategies, and quality control measures. Leading project-specific LEAN operations improvements processes is also a key responsibility, ensuring that all Advocate Aurora projects align with corporate objectives. The Design Manager will perform industry-based research and collaborate with national healthcare providers, architects, contractors, and other entities to ensure best practices are applied within Advocate Aurora's Planning and Design services. This role requires structuring and overseeing collaborative cross-service line efforts, including Supply Chain and IS, for specific projects.
