About The Position

The Design Intern works closely with a Landscape Architect to gain hands-on exposure to the full lifecycle of landscape design projects—from initial client consultation through installation and ongoing maintenance considerations. This internship is designed to provide real-world experience in both the design studio and the field, allowing the intern to build a strong understanding of design intent, constructability, plant material selection, spacing, and long-term landscape performance.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in or recently completed a Landscape Architecture, Landscape Design, or related program
  • Willingness to work both in an office/design setting and in the field
  • Basic knowledge of plant materials and landscape principles, preferred
  • Familiarity with design software (Land F/X, SketchUp Pro, Lumion, Adobe Photoshop, Bluebeam), ideal but not required
  • Strong attention to detail, willingness to learn, and positive attitude
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions
  • Ability to walk job sites, stand for extended periods, and work outdoors

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with design software (Land F/X, SketchUp Pro, Lumion, Adobe Photoshop, Bluebeam), ideal but not required
  • Basic knowledge of plant materials and landscape principles, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Shadow and assist a Landscape Architect during initial client meetings and site visits
  • Support the development of landscape concepts, layouts, and design documentation
  • Assist with site analysis, measurements, and existing conditions documentation
  • Gain exposure to plant selection, plant spacing, grading concepts, and material choices
  • Observe and participate in design revisions based on client feedback and project constraints
  • Spend time in the field with installation crews to understand how designs are executed
  • Learn installation methods, sequencing, and coordination between design and field teams
  • Observe maintenance practices to understand long-term landscape health, growth, and sustainability
  • Assist with basic drafting, rendering, or design software tasks as skill level allows
  • Maintain organization of project files, photos, and notes
  • Other duties as assigned
