About The Position

Nucor Buildings Group is seeking a dynamic Design Group Leader to guide our team in delivering high-quality designs that meet our clients' needs. This position involves leading a talented design team to create innovative solutions in the metal building industry. The Design Group Leader will support sales and profit objectives, ensure effective communication with customers, deliver high-quality designs, enhance department effectiveness, assist in talent acquisition and development, develop and maintain design standards, contribute to strategic planning, manage design programs, lead problem-solving initiatives, perform design and design checks, and provide backup support as necessary. Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Requirements

  • A minimum of two (2) years of metal building experience or equivalent structural engineering experience.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.
  • PE registration or ability to obtain such within two (2) years of accepting this position.
  • Willingness to travel to project meetings with customers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the activities of the Design Group to contribute to the company's sales and profitability goals.
  • Work closely with internal and external customers to maintain clear communication, define project scope, and meet challenging schedules.
  • Collaborate with the design team to produce safe, thorough, accurate, and timely designs.
  • Mentor, coach, and lead team members to help them achieve and leverage their full potential.
  • Participate in the recruitment, interviewing, and training of new team members.
  • Create and uphold current design policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Work with the Engineering Leadership Team to plan strategically for the future needs of the Design Group and Engineering Department.
  • Ensure that the correct versions of design programs are consistently in use.
  • Coordinate root cause analysis and action plans for issues such as IQRs, QSRs, Ton and Hour Variances, etc.
  • Occasionally complete designs or conduct design checks as needed.
  • Step in to support the Design Supervisor function as necessary.
