About The Position

The Mechanical Engineer – Design for Manufacturing (DfM) is responsible for ensuring mechanical designs are optimized for manufacturability, assembly, quality, cost, and producibility within an aerospace and defense environment. This role works closely with design engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and suppliers to support the transition of products from concept through production and sustainment, while maintaining compliance with applicable industry standards, customer requirements, and configuration control processes.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication, organization, scheduling, and analytical skills required
  • Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturing and Design for Assembly in regulated environments.
  • Proficiency with aerospace-relevant CAD tools (e.g., Creo, NX, CATIA, SolidWorks).
  • Familiarity with aerospace manufacturing processes (machining, sheet metal, composites, special processes).
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical standards.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and root cause analysis skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related STEM discipline
  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience in Mechanical Design or Manufacturing Engineering
  • Must be a U.S citizen.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Secret security clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with AS9100 quality systems and aerospace configuration management practices.
  • Experience with supplier technical management and contract manufacturers.
  • Master’s degree in an Engineering discipline or other STEM related field
  • 5+ years of experience in defense industry or related area
  • SAE ASA-100 certification
  • Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Certifications

Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, and release mechanical designs, drawings, and specifications in accordance with aerospace standards
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and program teams to ensure designs meet producibility, cost, schedule, and quality objectives
  • Support prototype builds, first article inspections (FAI), and transition from engineering development to production
  • Participate in and support Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) assessments and design reviews (PDR, CDR, PRR)
  • Support supplier technical engagements, including design reviews and producibility assessments
