About the position

The Design Engineer position at Mountain Ltd. involves working remotely to provide engineering solutions for fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) design. The role focuses on interpreting engineering plans, designing fiber routes, and creating detailed documentation for construction projects in the telecommunications sector.

Responsibilities

• Perform all facets of FTTH design, including preparing and interpreting engineering plans.
• Plan and design fiber feeder routes and distribution areas.
• Create pre-field layouts for field engineers to follow.
• Review data collected from the field to create final designs and CAD prints for construction.
• Create splicing documents, material pricing sheets, Q-port reports, and CAS pricer sheets.
• Interpret CAD and GIS information from existing network data.
• Layout pre-field FTTH design plans and design new fiber distribution areas from post field notes.
• Determine fiber path designs, input design placement codes, develop splice plans, and create permit drawings.
• Create detailed splicing documents and labor/material workbooks for project funding and construction.

Requirements

• Expert level knowledge of OSP FTTH design principles and telephone industry standards.
• Knowledge of splicing practices and ability to create detailed splicing plans.
• Experience in aerial make ready to create detailed design prints.
• Previous experience in aerial, buried, and underground outside plant engineering.
• OSP design experience in a fiber environment.
• FTTH experience required.
• Knowledge of FROGS, varasset, Infinium, DPI, and AutoCad required.
• Must have own tools such as laptop/desktop tower, monitors, high-speed internet, AutoCad, etc.
• Ability to perform work with minimal supervision.
