A Design Engineer at Technical Response is primarily responsible for the development, refinement, organization, and issuance of Engineering documents related to the production and control of injection molded and blow molded goods. Secondarily, engineers at technical response contribute to the continuous improvement of process within the department and amongst cross functional teams via the development, acquisition, and deployment of tools/processes.

  • Develop and maintain 3D CAD models and 2D drawings in SolidWorks, with emphasis on plastic components and assemblies.
  • Support the design of injection-molded parts and other components, ensuring manufacturability and adherence to design standards.
  • Assist with tooling and fixture design/build using CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, and 3D printing.
  • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation including BOMs, drawings, and revision histories.
  • Participate in process development and improvement projects, including setup, validation, and optimization of manufacturing methods.
  • Support statistical process control (SPC) activities, data collection, and analysis to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Assist in equipment acquisition, installation, and commissioning, working with vendors and internal stakeholders.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across production and assembly areas.
  • Provide support for in-house automation systems, including basic mechanical and electrical design for jigs, fixtures, and automated processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot production issues and implement practical solutions.
  • Learn and apply company standards for GD&T, tolerancing, material selection, and automation practices.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience with strong technical background).
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks (3D modeling and 2D drawings).
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes such as injection molding, machining, sheet metal, and additive manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with engineering documentation (BOMs, drawings, revisions, GD&T).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to take a hands-on approach in the shop and on the production floor.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a small team environment, contributing across multiple engineering functions.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Eagerness to learn new tools, processes, and automation technology.
  • 0-5 years of experience is required.
