QA1, a recognized leader in high-performance suspension components for motorsports and industrial markets, is seeking a skilled Design Engineer to play a key role in product design for Detroit Speed & Engineering, based in Mooresville, North Carolina. This is an impactful role focused on the design and development of innovative suspension products that set the standard within the automotive aftermarket industry for performance and quality. Our ideal candidate is detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and brings hands-on experience in 3D modeling and product design—preferably within the automotive industry. A strong foundation in engineering principles, a passion for automotive performance, and a deep understanding of design for manufacturability—including casting, machining, and fabrication—are essential. In this role, you'll be supported by a collaborative and experienced team, providing opportunities for you to learn, grow, and make a meaningful impact.   • Spearhead design and prototype projects using engineering principles and techniques.
  • Develop detailed part models and assemblies using CAD software.
  • Conduct analysis and reverse engineering of existing components.
  • Apply design-for-manufacturing principles to ensure efficient production.
  • Oversee seamless product launches from concept to production.
  • Specify materials, hardness, surface finishes, and tolerances.
  • Perform engineering calculations related to strength, fatigue, weight, kinematics, cost, flow, and speed.
  • Participate in cross-functional design reviews and project evaluations.
  • Assist in prototype construction and implement design changes based on test results.
  • Evaluate conceptual designs, conduct validation testing, and release final designs.
  • Engage in training sessions related to ongoing projects.
  • Represent the company and its products at trade shows, customer visits, and industry events.
  • Other duties as beneficial to the success of QA1.
  • Bachelor's degree in Product Design Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.
  • 2-4 years of experience in a similar engineering role.
  • Passion for motor sports, muscle cars, hot rods, or pro-touring builds.
  • Strong knowledge of suspension, chassis systems, and vehicle dynamics.
  • Proficiency in solid modeling; SolidWorks experience preferred.
  • Deep understanding of design for manufacturing across various processes: machining, sheet metal fabrication, laser cutting, welding, forging, stamping, casting, and tube bending.
  • Familiarity with FEA, kinematic system design and analysis, 3D printing, and metrology tools.
  • Experience with material specification and tolerance analysis.
  • Ability to perform complex engineering calculations.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Positive, collaborative attitude with a team-oriented mindset.
  • Strong communication skills—verbal, written, and interpersonal.
  • Highly organized and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong cross-functional relationships.
  • Willingness to learn continuously and accept feedback for growth.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with urgency, accuracy, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP-based inventory systems; experience with VXelements/Creaform.OS is a plus.
