About The Position

The Design Engineer at Helen of Troy will play a crucial role in the development of innovative products for well-known brands such as OXO, Hydro Flask, and Osprey. This position involves leading design engineering efforts, collaborating with industrial designers, and ensuring that products are manufacturable and meet design specifications. The role is hybrid, requiring three days in the office and two days remote, allowing for flexibility while contributing to impactful product design.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Bachelor of Industrial Design.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience, including internships or work experience.
  • Portfolio in PDF or website format submitted with the application.
  • Exposure to new product design and engineering.
  • Experience with 3D CAD software.
  • Effective project management, collaboration, and communication skills.
  • Practical hands-on skills with general workshop tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Consultancy background.
  • Experience in the consumer-goods industry.
  • Experience with Asian manufacturing.
  • Experience with Solidworks.
  • Experience with prototyping and 3D printing.
  • Previous exposure to product manufacturing, particularly plastics and injection molding.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design-engineering segment of projects within the design team.
  • Collaborate with industrial designers throughout the entire product development cycle.
  • Design product architecture through mechanical design solutions.
  • Create solutions that enhance product performance and user experience.
  • Engineer solutions that integrate with industrial design, ensuring manufacturability within project budgets.
  • Generate CAD models and assemblies to conceptualize product construction.
  • Simulate product use-cases through prototyping and model-building.
  • Share and present test results and design status with the design team and managers.
  • Design within project briefs, meeting target schedules and manufacturing costs.
  • Provide engineering support for new products from T1 through pilot/first production.
  • Understand and validate manufacturing methods for unique products and applications.
  • Partner with manufacturing partners to refine assembly and manufacturing processes.
  • Communicate with project engineers to resolve manufacturing issues.
