About The Position

This internship position is part of the Kenworth Chillicothe Design Engineering team, focusing on product design improvements, project implementation, and prototype support. The role involves collaborating with various departments to enhance design processes and support factory goals, providing a hands-on experience in engineering within a leading commercial vehicle manufacturer.

Requirements

• Progression towards a degree in a related engineering field.
• Demonstrated ability to understand complex tasks.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to organize and manage projects and prototypes.
• Must be able to read and use engineering drawings/schematics.
• Proficient in all applications within the Microsoft Office suite.
• Experience with Pro/Engineer or other 3D modeling software.
• Must be a Junior/Senior level student.

Nice To Haves

• Truck or automotive experience with demonstrated understanding of mechanical and electrical devices and manufacturing processes.
• Understanding of the product development cycle.
• EIT.

Responsibilities

• Proactively define issues and reach early resolution and consensus.
• Provide engineering advice for specific design or installation problems encountered in manufacturing.
• Interact with Division Engineering, Production, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials, and Quality Assurance to develop design improvements throughout various chassis systems and implement new engineering projects.
• Run prototype trials prior to project implementation.
• Support kaizen, six sigma projects, warranty reduction, and quality improvement projects by providing appropriate engineering representation.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
