About The Position

As a leader in technology-enabled solutions for the cold-formed steel building components industry, MiTek Steel Framing Systems offers a wide range of products and engineering services to support construction. As a Design Engineering Intern, you will work closely with the Steel Framing Engineering Team to deliver high-performance cold-formed steel solutions, enhance team capabilities, and contribute to innovative developments. Responsibilities include designing truss components and repairs, solving customer engineering challenges, expanding standard details with calculation-based improvements, and supporting the development of new cold-formed steel products. This role reports to the Director of Engineering at the Chesterfield office. Our program is a paid, 12-week program that will run from Monday, May 18th through Friday, August 7th. For internships that outside your current geographic location, we offer a $6,000 Intern Stipend to help cover your temporary housing and travel for the duration of the program.

Requirements

  • Strong proficiency in algebra, trigonometry, physics, statistics, material strength, structural analysis, and design
  • High attention to detail with the ability to perform tasks accurately and thoroughly.
  • Active listening skills, able to effectively understand and respond to others' comments and questions.
  • Solid engineering and technical skills with keen attention to detail
  • Commitment to safety with an excellent safety record, adhering to all safety policies and procedures
  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree at an accredited college degree program in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering; expected to graduation date in Fall 2026 or Spring 2027 with potential to convert to full-time employment.
  • Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher
  • MS Office suite of products.

Nice To Haves

  • AutoCAD or other drafting software experience desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide calculation-based improvements to existing standard engineering details and support the development of new standard engineering details.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to support the development of technical reference material and engineering design tools.
  • Support the enhancement of the truss repair process with the development of repair tracking and typical repair detail catalogue under the guidance and direction of senior staff.
  • Support special engineering projects, strategic initiatives, and new product R&D initiatives.
  • Collaborate to engineer cold-formed steel trusses, components, and framing under the guidance and direction of senior staff for project specific applications.
  • Collaborate with the engineering and software development teams to support software analytical validation, performance assessment and enhancement development.
