About The Position

As a Design Engineer on the Global Cabs team , you will play a key role in designing and delivering cab ROPS and fabrications that directly impact safety, comfort, and performance for Caterpillar customers worldwide. You will support full lifecycle cab development across multiple machine platforms and global regions, working closely with cross‑functional engineering teams, manufacturing, and suppliers. In this role, you’ll apply strong technical expertise and data‑driven problem solving to develop robust, manufacturable cab designs that meet global regulatory requirements and Caterpillar engineering standards. You will help drive design validation, resolve complex technical challenges, and support successful product launches—ensuring high‑quality cab systems that enhance the operator experience across Caterpillar’s global portfolio.

Requirements

  • Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • Technical Excellence: Leverage deep technical knowledge in materials, structural mechanics, and manufacturing processes to solve complex cab ROPS and fabrications design challenges.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional SMEs (safety, NVH, HVAC, manufacturing, quality) and leverage APQP for cab system design validation and issue resolution, ensuring alignment with Caterpillar engineering standards and global regulations.
  • Assume accountability for personal technical performance and actively hold others accountable to ensure robust, compliant, and high-quality cab designs.
  • Product Design and Development: Support complex, full-lifecycle cab product development initiatives across multiple machine platforms and regions, from concept and layout through production and launch.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration with global engineering, manufacturing, and supplier teams to ensure robust design validation and smooth global product launches.
  • Ensure cab system quality and performance through integration of Six Sigma methodologies and Design Verification Plans (DVP&R) , with focus on safety, durability, fit/finish, and operator experience.
  • Product Design - MFG: Collaborate closely with suppliers and manufacturing teams to optimize cab designs for manufacturability, assembly, serviceability, and cost, with emphasis on Team Feasibility Commitments .
  • Coordinate with procurement, production, and quality teams to align cab design objectives with manufacturing and supplier capabilities using APQP methodology .
  • Provide strategic technical input on complex cab design challenges by performing and reviewing Tolerance Stack-up Analysis for cab structures, doors, glazing, and interior systems.
  • Analytical Thinking: Interpret engineering data, test results, and performance metrics related to cab durability, NVH, sealing, ergonomics, and safety.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and troubleshoot cab system design issues across development and production.
  • Apply statistical tools and methodologies such as Six Sigma and FMEA to identify risks and improve design robustness.
  • Evaluate design trade-offs and make data-driven decisions balancing performance, cost, weight, comfort, and manufacturability.
  • Synthesize complex technical information into clear, actionable insights for cross-functional and leadership stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver cab ROPS and fabrications that meet performance, safety, durability, and global regulatory requirements.
  • Utilize PTC Creo to model parts and fabricated assemblies, including the design of welded joints
  • Design of stamped components using surface models
  • Employ FEA processes and methodologies (Creo Simulate)
  • Own technical execution for assigned cab components, ensuring alignment with Caterpillar engineering standards and quality expectations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional SMEs (safety, NVH, HVAC, manufacturing, quality) and apply APQP to validate designs and resolve issues.
  • Support full lifecycle cab development across multiple machine platforms and global regions, from concept through production launch.
  • Drive collaboration with global engineering, manufacturing, and supplier teams to enable successful integration and on-time launches.
  • Develop and execute DVP&R and apply Six Sigma tools to ensure robust cab system performance, including fit/finish, NVH, sealing, and operator experience.
  • Partner with suppliers and manufacturing to optimize designs for manufacturability, serviceability, cost, and Team Feasibility Commitments.
  • Perform and review tolerance stack-up analysis for cab structures, doors, glazing, and interior systems.
  • Analyze test data and performance metrics; conduct root cause analysis and apply FMEA to improve design robustness.
  • Make data-driven design decisions balancing performance, cost, weight, comfort, and manufacturability.
  • Communicate technical findings and recommendations clearly to cross-functional teams and leadership.
  • Deliver assigned work on time in alignment with Global Cabs program objectives.
