About The Position

Superior Completion Services is seeking a Design Engineer 2 for our office in Houston, TX. The Design Engineer 2 will work within the Research, Design, New Product Development, and Sustaining Engineering Group and support new product development in our downhole completion tool product lines (including packers, sand control tools, fluid loss valves, interval control valves (ICVs), barrier valves, locks, nipples, and/or safety valves). In their role, they will be responsible for the design and qualification testing of new downhole completion tool products for oil and gas wells to meet our customers' requirements, as well as the maintenance of existing designs. The successful candidate will be highly self-motivated, able to work in a quick-paced environment.

Requirements

  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Experience/knowledge of downhole Oil and Gas Tools is preferred
  • Experience in product development and/or product sustaining is preferred
  • Experience working with API and ISO specifications is preferred (API 11D1, API 19V, API 19ICV, API 19AC, etc.)
  • 3D modelling skills are required; working knowledge of Autodesk Inventor is preferred
  • Ability to work 'hands-on' in a test lab and/or manufacturing facility
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
  • Excellent written and spoken communication, efficiency, and time management skills are required

Responsibilities

  • Preparing and reviewing engineering documents for prototyping and production
  • Providing support to the Design Engineering Group during prototype testing of equipment
  • Providing technical support for manufacturing and operations
  • Dispositioning nonconforming product
  • Preparing design packs and other product documentation
  • Troubleshooting failed equipment or processes
  • Generate layouts and detailed engineering calculations for new and modified equipment designs
  • Actively participate in development design reviews and make 'best choice' recommendations
  • Ensure that manufacturing drawings are consistent with the working layouts for product designs
  • Lead the assembly and lab testing of prototypes for product qualification
  • Draft documentation of new products
  • Provide technical assistance to manufacturing, assembly, and operation personnel
  • Review machine drawings and advise on manufacturability
  • Initiate, check, and approve change notices, test requests, and write test reports
  • Disposition of rejected parts
  • Create design pack documentation
  • Work with minimum supervision
