About The Position

The goal of the engineer is to promote B&I Contractors' services and solutions to support a "last look" with contract customers, "default spec" with consulting engineers, and "trusted advisor" with account owners. With assistance from the business development manager and others within the company, the Design Build System Engineer will ensure retention of assigned accounts and customers; will partner with other sales engineers and sales representatives from other departments to maximize profit generation from accounts through influence on specifications and project scopes. The Design Build System Engineer utilizes sales tools and tracking software to plan and document progress as well as increase business opportunity in accounts. Requirements

  • Four year Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Excellent working knowledge of NEC Standards, Florida Building Code (Mechanical & Energy).
  • EIT will be required within one year of employment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook & Excel.
  • Possess Strong communication, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Excellent trouble shooting and problem solving skills.
  • This position requires the ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis. The employee must be able to perform tasks involving physical labor, including lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying materials, tools, or equipment. Manual material handling must be performed in accordance with OSHA safety standards and company policies to minimize risk of injury.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous construction and/or engineering office related experience is not required, but preferred.
  • Experience working with Trimble Accubid Anywhere electrical estimating software.
  • CAD experience with Revit is preferred.
  • Prior related internships and/or summer experience are desired.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Electrical design input and continuous estimating from schematic, design development, 50%, to 100% construction documents.
  • Attend design meetings with owners, architects, engineers, and construction manager.
  • Perform Electrical system review and economic analysis.
  • Travel requirements - Geographic requirements include Tampa to Marco Island.
  • Coordinate trade employees and/or other subcontractors.
  • Provide technical assistance, i.e., engineering, interpretation of drawings, recommendation of construction methods and equipment, etc., as required.
  • Conduct on site visits/inspections as required ascertaining installation in compliance with MEP design.
  • Act as liaison between MEP trades and general construction trades.
  • Provide field employees with the necessary support to allow the project to be completed expeditiously.
  • Works in a "plan and spec" environment utilizing the necessary skills to build relationships with clients in a competitive market.
  • Builds partnering relationships with assigned accounts to drive the penetration of the Electrical Systems.
  • Maintains frequent face-to-face contact with the customers who most directly influence purchasing decisions with the client corporation. Actively listens, probes and identifies concerns.
  • With assistance from the VP of Electrical Operations, addresses concerns and performance lapses immediately and understands the customer's business, speaking their language. Develops credibility, loyalty, trust and commitment.
  • Supports the goals of the company, performs take-offs and bids the full spectrum of the market with the full spectrum of B&I Contractors' services and equipment offerings.
  • With consulting engineers, drives specifications of the full spectrum of projects towards products and brands offered by B&I Contractors.
  • With assigned owner accounts, the sales engineer should actively drive a preference for B&I Contractors' all-inclusive services, expansive product offerings, wealth of experience, and knowledge of the market.
  • Keeps management informed of progress toward achieving goals and account statuses. Calls for assistance from manager to keep the sales process moving as needed.
  • Demonstrates technical knowledge by writing the specification or matching the proposal to the building specifications to provide value to the customer and favorably position B&I Contractors to competitively bid and win the project.
  • Under direction from the business development manager, qualifies and assesses potential customers, accounts, and market segments. Teams with colleagues on individual projects based on account assignments, and refers leads to other departments as the opportunity arises.
  • Develops relationships with internal support and administrative staff to ensure customer satisfaction and effectively and efficiently address issues.
  • Manages customer purchases orders in relation to original proposals/estimates and forwards documentation to the appropriate individual for processing.
  • Participates in professional organizations and attends industry trade shows to build relationships and increase knowledge of market offerings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
