About The Position

The Design Associate position at International Paper is a developmental role aimed at individuals who are motivated and capable of performing various functions in a flexible, fast-paced environment. The successful candidates will be trained in one of the company's corrugated manufacturing facilities or customer commitment centers, learning the trade of corrugated structural design. This position is crucial as it influences the company's ability to provide innovative solutions to customers faster than competitors, while also developing strong talent to grow the base of creative resources. The Design Associate will report to the area Design Services Manager and must be open to relocation opportunities across multiple locations in the United States. In this role, the Design Associate will provide design solutions and services to the Value Added Services design teams, helping to build a competitive advantage for the commercial organization. Responsibilities include developing prototypes for customer acceptance, utilizing Impact CAD software to create structural solutions, and maintaining a safe and organized design lab. The position also involves managing sample stock inventory, operating CAD tables, and adhering to housekeeping practices. The Design Associate will be expected to balance the expectations of internal and external customers while maximizing value to both International Paper and its customers through efficient resource use and knowledge application. Candidates should have a passion for a career in corrugated packaging and packaging design, with a preference for those who have experience or coursework related to the industry. The role requires good communication and interpersonal skills to foster effective working relationships and the ability to manage customer design needs, cost savings, and technical projects. The Design Associate will also support new product development and must be mechanically competent, with proficiency in CAD, Project Management, and Microsoft Office software.
