As a Design & Release (D&R) Engineer for Driver and Passenger Seat Modules (DSM/PSM), you will lead the development of critical components integrated across nearly all vehicle programs and electrical architectures. These modules manage a sophisticated suite of features, including seat adjustment, thermal comfort, memory settings, lumbar support, massage, and power running boards. In this role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end management of all product deliverables, ensuring the delivery of robust, high-quality solutions for your assigned vehicle programs. To fill this position, Ford is seeking a highly motivated leader who leverages existing knowledge and experience to quickly pick up new skills and knowledge. Must be comfortable with communication in large forums and be able to simplify and communicate complex concepts. This individual should have experience working cross-functionally with an ability to quickly build rapport and relationships. This individual should also have a demonstrated history of success leading complex projects.

Requirements

  • Engineering degree from an accredited university.
  • Strong knowledge of Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Delivery System requirements and specifications.
  • Must have skills or be able to learn the various engineering computer systems (WERS, AVBOM, PPM Audit, Digital Buck, Team Center, Integrator, MS Office, etc.)
  • Experience with program delivery.
  • Strong Communication and Leadership Skills for cross-functional cooperation and issue resolution

Nice To Haves

  • BSEE (MSEE) preferred. Other disciplines may be considered if the candidate has comparable job experience.
  • Working knowledge of Ford D&R process preferred.
  • Preferred skills: Experience with MS Office, Vector tools such as CANalyzer, use of an oscilloscope and other troubleshooting tools; experience with Ford product development system applications is a plus (WERS, AVBOM, PPM Audit, Digital Buck, Team Center, Integrator)
  • Experience with product and program delivery.
  • Strong Communication and Leadership Skills for cross-functional cooperation and issue resolution.
  • Strong analytical skills (including 8D, 6-Panel, FMEA)
  • Prefer experience with electronic circuit design, board layout, and electronic module manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of all engineering requirements, for the DSM/PSM, per each development milestone, as defined by the Ford product development process.
  • Support all vehicle prototype builds, product launch and service issues.
  • Perform testing at electrical breadboards and provide status in Test Rail / Jira
  • Manage product financial status; review proposals to increase/decrease cost and seek approval for those changes via approval process with Ford management team.
  • Be an interactive and key member of the Seat Modules team, working closely with other seat module applications engineers, software engineers, and supplier team to support the product and develop robust solutions.
  • Work with the Vehicle Electrical Program Management Team (PMT) and Program Vehicle Team (PVT) to launch the DSM/PSM during the prototype and production launch phase.
  • Support the development of robust foundation documents including but not limited to: DFMEA, specifications, D/PVP&R, worst case circuit analysis (WCCA), device transmittals, etc.
  • Support technical design reviews (TDR) for module hardware design requirements and module interfaces.
  • Lead cross-functional teams, consisting of vehicle system engineers, other commodity owners, network communications engineers, manufacturing engineers (vehicle operations engineers), and commodity suppliers to drive timely resolution of program specific engineering issues.
  • Leverage failure detection strategies such as fault tree analysis, fishbone diagrams is/is not, etc.
  • Lead trouble shooting and problem resolution process using vehicle CAN network tools. Collect/analyze CAN data, review system schematics and vehicle EDS as required.
  • Develop solutions as required to revise or add features to the DSM/PSM as they impact DSM/PSM hardware.
  • Lead DSM/PSM configuration development and release effort (method 2 and method 3)
  • Lead a cross functional team of feature owners and system engineers to assist in the definition of the required behavioral requirements necessary to meet the program’s needs.
  • Ensure alignment with Product Definition Letters and compliance to regional regulatory requirements.
  • Lead resolution of warranty and quality issues.
