About The Position

The Boeing Company’s Global Services (BGS) C-17 team is seeking a mid-level Avionics Communication System Engineer for exciting opportunities within the C-17 Avionics & Flight Controls (AVFC) team to develop and test associated systems in a fast-paced Agile engineering environment. This position is located in Long Beach, California. Successful candidates will research and integrate new technologies that support the world's finest airlift aircraft, focusing on the communication system. Candidates will have the opportunity to work with Air Force customers using the latest engineering techniques to design and test C-17 aircraft sensors, controls, communications, avionics, and flight systems. Candidates will have direct hands-on experience working with the C-17 cockpit mockup and subsystems integration labs in Oklahoma City, OK to learn the various subsystems, verify requirements, validate design, and qualify modifications for installation onto the fleet. This position is expected to be 100% onsite. Some travel required to OKC lab, USAF customer locations, and possibly supplier locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry required.
  • Good to excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • 3+ years of experience with communications design, analysis, development, or verification
  • This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
  • This position is for 1st shift.

  • Have or have held an active U.S. Security Clearance in the past 24 months
  • Experience with digital/RF communications hardware and lab equipment

  • Experience working with USAF
  • Experience working with ARC-210, ARC-190, ARC-186, PRC-117 radios
  • Experience with Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) systems
  • Familiarity with HAVEQUICK, SINCGARS, SATURN, Integrated Waveform (IW), Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) waveforms
  • Familiarity with Mil-Std-1553 and ARINC 429 standards
  • Familiarity with Agile development processes

Responsibilities

  • Develops and documents electronic and electrical system requirements, focusing on the C-17 Communication System
  • Develops or modifies basic hardware and software design based on defined requirements
  • Performs system tests to verify operational and functional requirements either in the Boeing OKC labs, at the supplier site, or on the C-17 aircraft
  • Assists in monitoring suppliers' performance to ensure compliance with requirements
  • Supports resolution of product integration issues and production anomalies.
  • Research basic technologies for potential application to company business needs
