About The Position

The Deputy Treasurer plays a crucial role in assisting the Treasurer with the collection, distribution, enforcement, and reporting of property taxes in compliance with Colorado Statutes. This position involves managing the County's cash and investments, leading staff, and ensuring effective financial management and compliance with policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 3 years of financial and investing experience, including 3 years in financial leadership and management.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Treasurer in leadership duties to set strategic direction for the Treasurer's Division of the Finance Department.
  • Assists in developing and strengthening the structure and systems for effective management of property tax functions.
  • Oversees daily work of the division including collecting and distributing property taxes, administering abatements, and managing the annual tax lien sale.
  • Develops and recommends policies and procedures to ensure proper internal controls and efficient processes.
  • Builds and maintains effective relationships with community members, County staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Keeps abreast of changes in legislation and regulatory requirements, leading communications and initiatives resulting from these changes.
  • Manages the County's cash and investments, assisting with cash management and banking services.
  • Prepares monthly budget reports and quarterly investment reports, and assists with the annual audit.
  • Recruits, hires, coaches, and develops staff, ensuring effective onboarding and career development opportunities.
  • Models performance and behavioral expectations, maintaining effective communication within the team.
