About The Position

The Deputy Traffic Safety Administrator position is responsible for supporting the Highway Traffic Safety Grant Section of the FDOT State Safety Office with grants management and fiscal management activities. This position facilitates highly specialized, and professional work statewide which includes but is not limited to supervising employees, managing the activities of the Traffic Safety Program unit, and ensuring compliance with federal guidelines. The role involves significant collaboration with various stakeholders and requires a strong understanding of traffic safety programs.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of Federal and State rules, policies, and procedures on the administration of grant funded programs.
  • Knowledge of program and financial management for grant funded programs.
  • Skilled in facilitating meetings, workshops, and conferences.
  • Skilled in effectively working on a personal computer with a Windows operating system using Microsoft Office suite.
  • Skilled in providing consultation and expert advice to management.
  • Skilled in effectively communicating both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to implement highway safety countermeasure activities.
  • Ability to assemble, interpret, and apply statistical data.
  • Ability to effectively establish goals, objectives, and priorities.
  • Ability to plan, organize, manage, and accomplish work assignments.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to implement corrective action plans to solve problems.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises employees, communicates with, motivates, trains, and evaluates them.
  • Plans and directs workloads, deadlines, work objectives, and time utilization with subordinate staff.
  • Manages the activities of the Traffic Safety Program unit.
  • Administers, oversees, develops, and manages resources of the Safety Program unit.
  • Monitors section activities to ensure efficient and effective operations.
  • Assists with the coordination, development, implementation, and evaluation of planning documents.
  • Establishes and provides staff with guidance on planning and monitoring procedures.
  • Oversees development of problem identification strategies and performance goals.
  • Coordinates the implementation of activities required to complete annual reports.
  • Serves as primary system administrator for the Florida Highway Traffic Safety Grant System.
  • Performs Quality Assurance, Policy, and Training Support for Program Managers.
  • Represents the Department at various meetings and conferences.
  • Maintains the NHTSA Grant Tracking System for financial management.
