About The Position

CACI is looking internally for a Deputy Team Lead to support the Lunar Gateway Vehicle Systems Manager (VSM) Flight Software Design team under Pavan Rajagopal. Candidates must be currently supporting this task team under Pavan to be considered. This is a promotion opportunity into the first level of leadership. The deputy will support the Lunar Gateway Program at NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) with project leadership and technical expertise in software systems engineering to support the design of the Lunar Gateway VSM flight software. VSM is an integrated system monitoring and autonomously managing Gateway space station modules and functions. Lunar Gateway, a vital component of NASA’s Artemis Program, will serve as a multi-purpose outpost orbiting the Moon that provides essential support for long-term human return to the lunar surface, and serves as a staging point and technology incubator for deep space exploration. The candidate will assist the task lead in leading the team and will also continue to contribute to VSM design and development with a focus on interactions with lower tier Module System Managers (MSMs). No code development will be involved. This position requires a self-motivated, capable person with strong verbal and written communication skills. In addition to outstanding technical expertise, the individual must be very people savvy, have leadership experience and strong customer relationship skills, possess a positive team-player attitude, be flexible and willing to take on new assignments and responsibilities as they arise, and be an articulate speaker able to communicate complex technical ideas in a convincing manner. The individual must share our passion for our Nation's Space Program and share in the excitement of developing the next human-rated space vehicles. This work takes place at NASA/JSC in Houston, Texas, a highly stimulating and dynamic environment that is critical in human space flight and the space exploration initiative.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident to facilitate access to USG facilities.
  • B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, Software, Computer, or Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related disciplines.
  • Evidence of desire to serve in a leadership capacity, e.g., serving as an Intern Mentor, participating in recruiting activities, developing / presenting project innovations, etc.
  • Must embrace a servant leadership model in supporting leadership of the project and serving the customer and team members.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem identification and problem-solving skills.
  • At least 3 years of software systems engineering experience including software design and development.
  • Experience defining and documenting interfaces between software applications.
  • Experience developing/maintaining software architecture and design artifacts.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Serve as deputy to the CACI Gateway VSM Flight Software Design Team Lead to assist in managing a 10+ member software systems engineering team, designing and prioritizing functionality based on customer needs, interacting with and providing support to users, managing project schedule, and giving large presentations and demonstrations of product capabilities.
  • Perform team administrative duties, e.g., team member assignments, timesheet approval, performance feedback, etc.
  • Provide mentorship to junior engineers and support team development and training.
  • Support recruiting efforts.
  • Analyze functional interactions between the Lunar Gateway VSM and lower-tier MSMs and document in use cases and Integrated Control Agreements (ICA).
  • Define and document command and data flows to integrate VSM and MSMs.
  • Support definition and refinement of goals, tasks, constraints to accomplish integrated control of Gateway Systems by VSM.
  • Provide input to software architecture and design artifacts.
  • Lead the VSM Mission Operations team and the Lunar Gateway Mission Management Working Group (MMWG) in defining tasks and constraints that require VSM-MSM interaction.
  • Establish, coordinate and lead working groups as needed to promote the maturation of VSM Interface Control Documents (ICDs), ICAs and associated artifacts
  • Interface with various stakeholders including the Flight Operations Directorate (FOD), module providers, system managers and development teams.
  • Collaborate with domestic and international Gateway partners.
