About The Position

The Child Protection Division Deputy Supervisor of the Cook County States Attorneys Office will direct the Assistant States Attorneys within the Child Protection Division. This is a full-time bargaining unit exempt position.

Requirements

Must have a minimum of 8 years of litigation experience in civil, criminal or child protection law.
Applicants must possess a law degree (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Be either a member in good standing with the Illinois bar, or eligible for admission to Illinois bar on Motion (reciprocity)
Must have demonstrated strong leadership skills and ability to train newer ASAs.
Must have significant trial experience

Nice To Haves

A working knowledge of the Juvenile Court Act
Experience prosecuting child protection cases
Legal writing experience

Responsibilities

Advise, support, encourage, train, collaborate, and assess both experienced as well as new ASAs on an ongoing basis. Offer hands-on assistance in and out of the courtroom from screening new cases to litigation.
Spend a substantial amount of time daily in each courtroom as a resource and hands-on support to deal with questions, problems or issues that come up and to observe the performance of each ASA so that guidance may be offered, encouragement given, and progress documented.
Handle or assist with the handling of sensitive cases, and co-chair significant trials, with division ASAs to mentor, train, model and enrich the Child Protection learning experience.
Keep abreast of all legislative and case law updates relative to Child Protection law.
Interact regularly in and outside of court with witnesses, judges, DCFS and agency personnel, law enforcement, family members, victim-witness representatives, community representatives, medical professionals, mental health professionals and school personnel regarding cases in the Child Protection Division to achieve the best outcomes for children, families, and the community.
Assist with protocol and policy recommendations and initiatives for the Child Protection Division.
Provide trainings to Child Protection Division ASAs and to outside partners.
