About The Position

The Deputy Sheriff is a commissioned law enforcement officer responsible for providing law enforcement services in the unincorporated areas of Grays Harbor County. This role involves routine patrol, traffic enforcement, criminal investigation, and public relations, requiring a high level of physical fitness, mental stability, and ethical conduct.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident and at least 21 years old by the date of hire.
• No felony convictions or serious misdemeanor convictions related to controlled substances or physical harm.
• High school graduate or GED equivalent.
• Must pass physical and psychological evaluations, polygraph exam, and extensive background check.
• Possess a valid Washington State driver's license.
• Ability to communicate clearly in verbal and written form.
• Maintain a high standard of physical condition and possess basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide law enforcement services in unincorporated areas of Grays Harbor County.
• Conduct routine patrols and maintain a good geographical knowledge of the county.
• Investigate traffic collisions and enforce traffic laws.
• Conduct criminal investigations, including preserving crime scenes and gathering evidence.
• Prepare reports in accordance with department policy.
• Engage with the community to improve police relations and provide education.
• Attend and complete the Washington State Basic Law Enforcement Academy and maintain required certifications.
