About The Position

Seeking two part-time deputy sheriff to enforce state and local laws relating to public safety and public welfare. Essential duties include performing security duties for County of Blair Courthouse; providing law enforcement, order, and security duties for internal and external customers (e.g., judges, courtrooms, Blair County Airport), patrolling throughout Blair County in a cruiser for the purpose of observing area for possible criminal activity or other conditions that could endanger public safety; enforcing on-view violations of Pennsylvania Crimes Code and Pennsylvania Vehicle Code; apprehending, arresting, and detaining criminal suspects and law violators; serving bench warrants, writs, summonses, executions, court notices, subpoenas, civil papers and/or protection from abuse orders; completing daily activity reports; transporting and supervising prisoners and mental health patients; maintaining required level of proficiency in use of firearms and driving skills; and maintaining confidentiality of department dealings.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Successfully complete requirements to graduate from Pennsylvania Sheriff and Deputy Sheriff Education and Training Program or of a municipal or state police training academy within 12 months of placement into position if without certificate at hire
  • Possess minimum of one year's work experience
  • Be at least 21 years old at time of employment
  • Possess proficient interpersonal relations and communications skills, strong customer service orientation
  • Have no state or federal convictions for a crime punishable by imprisonment in a state or federal prison (includes domestic violence)
