About The Position

Dauphin County Sheriff's Office is currently accepting applications for the position of Full Time Deputy Sheriff. This is a Teamsters Local 776 Union position. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Serving and enforcing Orders of the Courts, Writs, Writs of Executions, Summons, Subpoenas and orders of court and other legal documents. Transporting prisoners from County, State, and Federal prisons and various facilities throughout the state. Executing bench and arrest warrants. Responsible for court security. Other courthouse duties include; criminal, civil and juvenile courts, Domestic Relations, maintains security of courthouse holding cell, guilty pleas, arraignments and custody of prisoners in court. Conducting and/or participating in Sheriff's sales of real and personal property. Prepare reports using appropriate grammar, symbols and mathematical calculations. Assist other law enforcement agencies when necessary. Successfully complete Act 2 recertification every year. Successfully complete firearms requalification annually. May be required to perform additional work that follows prescribed or well-established procedures that can be learned within a reasonable time by training on the job. More detailed instructions as to the nature of their duties will be given to employees at the beginning of their various assigned shift work. Starting rate of $24.39 per hour. The Annual Salary is $50,731.20 per year. Minimum Education, Experience, and Training Requirements The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Must be a U.S. Citizen. High school diploma or equivalent. Must possess and maintain a valid Pennsylvania driver's license. Must be 21 years old with no criminal record. Must complete a written test. Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen at no cost to the applicant. Must pass Physical Agility Test in accordance with the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) Sheriff's Academy entry level requirements. See link for specific requirements by age group. Must complete an oral interview. Successfully pass a criminal background investigation. Successfully pass psychological examination. Within one (1) year of hire, employees hired for this job must successfully complete the Deputy Sheriffs' Basic Training Program (Act 2 certification) which is a 19-week training academy through Pennsylvania State University. (At no cost to the applicant.) Written Test will be administered Thursday, March 19, 2026 @ 9:00 a.m. Other Requirements Dauphin County Sheriff's Office Physical Fitness Test Requirements Prior to being offered employment with the Dauphin County Sheriff's Office the applicant will be required to complete the same physical fitness test as required for entry into the Deputy Sheriff's Basic Training Academy. The standards used for this pre-employment fitness test will be the entry level standards provided by the Sheriff and Deputy Sheriff Education and Training Board. Details of those requirements will be available in an attachment which details exactly how the test is administered with tables that detail entry level requirements for each gender and age group. The tables also provide you the certification requirements which are the requirements to complete the Deputy Sheriff's Basic Training Academy. Below is listed a summary of the test. Education and Training Board Physical Fitness Standards The Sheriff and Deputy Sheriff Education and Training Board requires that students attending the Basic Training Academy leading to certification as a sheriff/deputy sheriff in Pennsylvania successfully complete an entrance physical fitness test and a certification physical fitness test as part of the certification process. These tests are based on the Cooper Institute's Physical Fitness Assessments and Norms. The entrance physical fitness test is graded at the 20% as determined by age/sex standards. The certification physical fitness test is graded at the 40% as determined by age/sex standards. The physical fitness tests will consist of the following exercises: • Vertical Jump • One Minute Sit Up • 300 Meter Run • Maximum Push Up • 1.5 Mile Run Students are required to pass all exercises to pass the Physical Fitness test.
