About The Position

Deputy Sheriff Trainee - Starting Salary of $64,480 plus a $7,500 Sign On Incentive. $33.25 UPON SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE DEPUTY SHERIFF ACADEMY. Trainees may earn over $70,000 during their first full year of employment! Receive up to $5,250 annually in education reimbursement. Earn 3 weeks of vacation in first year. Eligible employees receive up to 6 weeks of paid paternal leave for the birth or adoption of a child. The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) is seeking passionate individuals to join our team as a Deputy Sheriff Trainee. In this role, high importance is placed on ensuring public safety is provided and maintained by an individual who takes pride in their work and considers the impact of their actions on an individual, team and organizational level.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be twenty (20) years and six (6) months of age at the time of application, and 21 years of age prior to the completion of the Sheriff's academy.
  • Must meet Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) standards.
  • Must possess, or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire, a valid Arizona driver's license.
  • Must provide a valid government issued birth certificate at the time of background processing.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce laws and maintain order while protecting life and property.
  • Conduct traffic and criminal investigations, using accepted methods and techniques to identify, secure, collect and protect evidence and crime scenes.
  • Respond quickly to emergency situations via department vehicle using vehicle's emergency equipment when needed.
  • Maintain a safe and secure community by identifying and responding to in-progress criminal activity and unusual or suspicious circumstances.
  • Attend, implement and provide all required training associated with the duties and functions of a law enforcement officer.
  • Interact with the public and staff by effectively communicating verbally and in writing.
