About The Position

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is seeking Deputy Sheriff Recruits for law enforcement roles. Recruits will participate in a 21-week academy, receiving a salary while training. Upon completion, they will work 12-hour shifts and engage in various law enforcement duties. This position requires physical fitness, adherence to training standards, and the ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • High School graduation or equivalent diploma from an accredited institution.
  • College credits from a regionally accredited college that includes English Comp I or pass the PERT administered by St. Petersburg College.
  • Pass the Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test (CJBAT) for Law Enforcement.
  • Pass the Police Officer's Selection Test (POST) administered by Human Resources.
  • Pass the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office new hire physical assessment.
  • Successful completion of law enforcement training as required by the State of Florida.
  • Obtain certification by the Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission after training completion.
  • Must have a valid Florida Driver's License (minimum Class E).
  • Credit check required for consideration.

Nice To Haves

  • Veteran status or an Associate Degree or higher from an accredited college or university (exempt from CJBAT and POST).

Responsibilities

  • Attend a 21-week Law Enforcement Academy at SEPSI.
  • Pass all academy exams with a minimum score of 80%.
  • Complete training in law enforcement operations, firearms, arrest techniques, defensive tactics, first responder techniques, vehicle operation, officer survival, and emergency preparedness.
  • Participate in nine weeks of high liability training in addition to the academy.
  • Complete up to fourteen weeks of field training.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance as an essential function of the position.
  • Participate in Sheriff's Office recruitment and community relations activities as directed.
