About The Position

The Department of Human Resources is continuously recruiting for lateral transfers for the position of Deputy Sheriff. Eligible candidates will be evaluated and ranked upon receipt of their application. Candidates must currently be employed as sworn peace officers in a P.O.S.T. recognized agency and possess valid certification from P.O.S.T. to apply. The salary range for Deputy Sheriff I is $5,446.49-$6,698.49 per month, and for Deputy Sheriff II, it is $6,004.75-$7,385.09 per month. Under direction, the Deputy Sheriff performs a wide variety of duties involving the protection of life and property, education and enforcement of laws and ordinances, emergency response, criminal investigation, crime prevention and suppression, case preparation and testimony, and providing information and assistance to the public.

Requirements

  • Currently employed as a sworn peace officer in a P.O.S.T. recognized agency.
  • Possession of valid certification from P.O.S.T. with satisfactory completion of 'Basic' training and experience.

  • Knowledge of local geography, County streets, public buildings, and businesses.

Responsibilities

  • Perform armed patrol of the County on foot, bicycle, and other department vehicles to maintain security and order.
  • Respond to and investigate calls for Sheriff's service regarding criminal, non-criminal, or emergency related activities.
  • Conduct case or incident investigations and related follow-up activities, control crime scenes, and gather evidence.
  • Respond to public service calls and complaints of potentially hostile situations.
  • Serve subpoenas, warrants, summons, and eviction notices as necessary.
  • Respond to fires and emergency medical needs, performing First Aid and CPR/AED as necessary.
  • Cooperate with local law enforcement in the suppression and control of disruptive or illegal activities.
  • Prepare and maintain written records, notes, logs, and reports related to police activity.
  • Safely maintain, calibrate, inspect, and utilize police weapons and equipment.
  • Perform crime prevention activities and participate in community outreach programs.
