About The Position

The Deputy Sheriff II - Certified provides law enforcement and security to the County. This position involves a variety of essential functions including securing inmates, maintaining personal possessions of inmates, performing uniform patrol work, assisting in investigations of crimes, maintaining security for various facilities, preparing and reviewing reports, serving civil process papers, entering data into computer systems, and overseeing inventory of equipment and supplies. The role also requires attending training conferences to maintain certification as a Law Enforcement Officer.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Vocational/technical training in Basic Law Enforcement.
  • Five months previous experience and/or training involving law enforcement work within the Sheriff's Office.
  • Valid Georgia driver's license.
  • Valid Peace Officer and firearms certifications.
  • Georgia POST certification.

Responsibilities

  • Secures inmates in holding cells or jails and oversees the processing of inmates into jail including booking and ID preparation.
  • Transports prisoners to and from court or doctor's appointments and arranges and performs interstate extradition.
  • Supervises and assists in the bonding and release of prisoners and manages inmate control and movement.
  • Conducts shakedowns and searches for contraband and responds to inmate disturbances.
  • Maintains personal possessions of inmates and creates ledgers and accounts for inmates' money.
  • Performs uniform patrol work, issues citations for traffic violations, and responds to emergency calls.
  • Assists in investigations of crimes, collects evidence, secures crime scenes, and testifies in court.
  • Maintains security for various facilities including court, jail, and juror locations.
  • Prepares and reviews various reports and documents such as booking reports and accident reports.
  • Serves civil process papers including search warrants and protective orders.
  • Enters various data into the computer system and checks criminal backgrounds and histories.
  • Answers telephone calls and assists citizens with inquiries and responds to citizen complaints.
  • Oversees inventory of equipment and supplies and coordinates maintenance of fleet vehicles.
  • Attends staff meetings and other meetings as required.
