The purpose of this classification is to provide law enforcement and security to the County. The Deputy Sheriff I is responsible for processing new inmates and arrested persons, conducting identification procedures, searching inmates, and securing persons in jail or holding cells. This role includes preparing processing paperwork, informing inmates of charges and bond amounts, and screening inmates for medical conditions. The Deputy Sheriff I also oversees visitation, monitors security of the jail, and prepares various reports and logs.
