About The Position
The Deputy Sheriff I Academy Graduate will perform law enforcement and crime prevention work; patrol assigned areas and enforce State and local laws; and conduct investigations of misdemeanor and felony crimes. The Deputy Sheriff has the responsibility of maintaining law and order within the County by performing law enforcement activities in a variety of assignments: patrol, investigations, court security, and civil. Patrol involves answering calls for protection of life and property, conducting preliminary and follow-up investigations of criminal incidents, directing traffic, and making arrests as necessary. Investigations include investigating major crimes, gathering evidence, conducting surveillance, and presenting information to the District Attorney's office. Court security entails maintaining safety in the courtroom, serving as bailiff, and monitoring courtroom activities. Civil duties involve serving legal papers, warrants, and maintaining necessary files and documents.
