About The Position

The Canyon County Sheriff's Office is seeking Deputy Sheriff applicants to perform general duty police work in assigned areas, enforcing state and local laws and ordinances. The role involves responding to calls for the protection of life and property, conducting investigations, and making arrests. Officers may be assigned to various areas such as detention, patrol, investigation, and community services. The work environment includes both office and outdoor settings, with exposure to adverse weather conditions and potential personal danger.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency required
  • Some college courses in criminal justice preferred
  • Idaho driver's license
  • Idaho POST certification within one year of hire
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation, including a polygraph examination, through the National Crime Information Center (NCIC)

  • Five (5) years post high school employment history

Responsibilities

  • Enforces state and local laws and ordinances in assigned area of Sheriff's Office
  • Maintains security and custody of inmates
  • Uphold Idaho laws and jail policies
  • Assist with jail processing of inmates and appropriate confinement designations
  • Responds to calls in area of assigned duty and takes appropriate action
  • Prepares reports of arrests made, activities performed, and unusual incidents observed in a timely manner
  • Conducts both preliminary and follow-up investigations and collects evidence in disturbances, criminal incidents, hazardous incidents, vehicle accidents, and deaths
  • Verbally interacts with witnesses and victims, suspects, inmates and offenders to obtain information
  • Conducts examinations of persons, vehicles, premises, or areas to determine the presence of individuals or illegal activities or articles
  • Takes suspect or offender into custody and delivers them to appropriate confinement location, maintaining security and safety of individuals being moved from one location to another
  • Performs relevant law enforcement activities
  • Performs patrol, crowd control, traffic control, public information, and related duties during community events, celebrations, and related activities
  • Presents testimony and evidence in court and other legal proceedings
  • Maintains, cleans, and cares for County-issued equipment and vehicles
  • Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with County and Office policies, procedures and safety practices
