Performs investigative work in the solution of crimes and the identification and apprehension of persons suspected of committing criminal acts. Employees in this class conduct preliminary and supplementary major crimes, property, child-abuse, narcotics, trafficking, juvenile related investigations within the Detective Division. Employees interview victims, witnesses, and suspects, as well as identify, collect, and preserve physical evidence, prepare reports, and testify in court. This work is performed under minimum supervision and requires the application of modern investigative techniques, sound judgment, and independent initiative. Work also involves frequent public contact which requires tact, firmness, and decisiveness. Work is performed under the direct supervision of the Deputy Sheriff Detective Sergeant or Deputy Sheriff Detective Lieutenant and is evaluated through observation, review of reports, and discussion of case management.
