General Description of Duties Performs responsible administrative and clerical work of a legal nature in the Office of the Register of Deeds. This position assists the public with requests for vital records, including marriage licenses, certified birth, marriage, and death certificates, and military discharge records. The role also involves greeting and assisting visitors, helping individuals locate documents, processing fees, and balancing the daily cash drawer. Additional responsibilities include recording, scanning, and indexing vital records, administering Notary Public oaths, and recording land record documents as needed. Accuracy, sound judgment, and a strong working knowledge of North Carolina General Statutes related to the Register of Deeds are essential. The position requires professionalism, tact, and courtesy when interacting with the public. Work is performed under the supervision of the Register of Deeds and is evaluated through daily observation, discussion, and accuracy of completed tasks.
