About The Position

The Stanislaus County Public Defender's Office is seeking qualified law school students and graduates for the position of Deputy Public Defender (Attorney I) Trainee. Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Interview and advise defendants regarding their constitutional rights and relevant information about criminal charges.
  • Analyze case material, initiate investigations, and interview witnesses essential to the defense.
  • Conduct legal research and incorporate laws and court decisions into case preparation.
  • Confer with prosecuting staff and court officials regarding case management and legal documents.
  • Prepare and submit legal documents on behalf of defendants.
