About The Position

Entry-level position, trains to perform law enforcement in the preservation of peace; the prevention, detection, and investigation of crimes; the arrest or apprehension of violator; and the provision of assistance to citizens in emergencies, including the protection of civil rights; assures compliance with tribal, federal, state, county, and municipal laws and ordinances and agency rules and regulations pertaining to law enforcement work.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • An additional six (6) months of experience in a related field.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should know Database, Internet, and Word Processing software.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.
  • Must obtain First Aid, and CPR certifications within six (6) months of hire and then maintain certifications throughout employment.
  • Must obtain FLETC certification within one year of hire, or as soon as scheduling allows, and maintain throughout employment.
  • Must complete or possess CLEET reciprocity certification within two years of hire and then maintain throughout employment.
  • The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
  • Must meet and maintain eligibility for CLEET and Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) deputation.
  • Must maintain no restrictions from testifying in any tribal, state, and federal court while employed with Cherokee Nation Marshal Service (CNMS).
  • Must pass and maintain the ability to pass the Police Officer Suitability Test (POST) and Minnesota Multiphasic Physiological Inventory (MMPI).
  • Must meet and maintain medical suitability.
  • Must pass firearms qualifications semi-annually.
  • Must meet and maintain periodic background adjudication for law enforcement.
  • Must live within the Tribal Jurisdictional Service Area.
  • Must comply with Cherokee Nation Marshal Service's Policies, Procedures, and Code of Conduct.
