About The Position

The Deputy Inspector General serves as a key leadership role within the Office of Inspector General (OIG) at the Illinois Department of Human Services (DHS). This position is responsible for overseeing hotline, intake, and investigatory operations, ensuring effective management of staff, and developing policies and procedures. The Deputy Inspector General acts as a primary liaison with various stakeholders, including the Governor's Office and advocacy groups, and plays a crucial role in legislative initiatives and sensitive investigations.

Requirements

  • Completion of four (4) years of college education.
  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a public sector investigative, law enforcement, or prosecutorial organization.

Nice To Haves

  • Five (5) years of professional experience interviewing witnesses and gathering data on abuse/neglect or malfeasance/misfeasance.
  • Five (5) years of experience preparing investigative reports.
  • Five (5) years of experience maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information.
  • Two (2) years of professional supervisory experience in a relevant field.
  • Three (3) years of experience attending criminal, civil, or administrative proceedings as an expert witness.
  • Three (3) years of experience reviewing and recommending revisions to investigative policies.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Deputy Inspector General of the Office of Inspector General (OIG), DHS, overseeing all processing activities and responsibilities.
  • Plan, direct, control, coordinate, and supervise staff engaged in hotline, intake, and investigatory operations.
  • Develop and recommend appropriate policies and procedures covering assigned responsibilities.
  • Participate in the formulation and implementation of policies.
  • Review proposed legislation affecting the Department and Office of Inspector General.
  • Assign and review work, provide guidance and training to staff, and counsel regarding performance.
  • Establish annual goals and objectives, approve time off, and manage grievances and discipline.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for the Inspector General's Office with the Bureau of Labor Relations.
  • Act as a liaison for DHS senior staff on issues not requiring OIG attention.
  • Communicate with the Governor's Office, legislators, advocacy groups, and local governments regarding OIG activities.
  • Conduct special studies and research on critical issues related to the Inspector General's Office.
