About The Position

Under the general direction of a Deputy Inspector General, Senior, the incumbent will monitor the manner in which California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) reviews its centralized screening intake of complaints against staff; including the analysis and decisions of the CDCR Centralized Screening Team who receive, review, and make initial decisions concerning staff misconduct complaints and other grievances. The Deputy Inspector General assesses the performance of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation staff members who receive, review, and make the initial decisions concerning the complaints. The Deputy Inspector General completes assessments of the reviews and decisions, reviews the work of and collaborates with other staff, including Associate Deputy Inspectors General. The Deputy Inspector General will handle the most complicated CST cases and will communicate directly with CDCR staff regarding CST cases, as needed. The Deputy Inspector General conducts research in California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation databases and other sources, and as requested, participates in producing internal and external reports concerning monitoring activities; may conduct observe, participate in or conduct trainings, may develop training, draft public reports, and perform other duties as assigned. The incumbent will periodically travel to prisons, regional offices, and headquarters in Sacramento. This position is eligible for teleworking under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, but some in office work may be required. Proof of California residency will be required prior to start date, if teleworking. This position may be filled in one of the following three locations: Sacramento, Bakersfield or Rancho Cucamonga.
