Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced privacy lawyer to lead the development, implementation, and ongoing management of the company’s global privacy program. This role will serve as the company’s Privacy Officer/DPO and primary subject-matter expert on privacy and data protection matters. The ideal candidate brings a mix of private practice and in-house and/or government experience and is comfortable operating both strategically and hands-on.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school and active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 5+ years of experience in privacy and data protection law, with a combination of private practice and in-house and/or government experience preferred.
  • Strong experience negotiating and drafting privacy-related contractual provisions.
  • Deep understanding of U.S. privacy laws and regulatory trends; familiarity with international privacy regimes is a plus.
  • Ability to balance legal risk with business objectives and provide pragmatic, actionable advice.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation, and ongoing management of the company’s privacy and data protection program.
  • Serve as the company’s designated Privacy Officer/DPO, providing guidance to executive leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Develop, maintain, and enforce internal privacy policies, standards, and procedures, including data retention and deletion frameworks.
  • Lead and manage privacy and data protection provisions in vendor, supplier, and customer contracts.
  • Advise on data processing agreements, cross-border data transfer mechanisms, and privacy-related commercial negotiations.
  • Partner closely with Operations, Engineering, Compliance and other teams to identify and mitigate privacy risks at an early stage.
  • Monitor and assess developments in U.S. state, federal, and relevant international privacy and data protection laws and regulations.
  • Translate evolving legal requirements into practical guidance and operational controls for the business.
  • Provide practical, business-oriented legal advice on data use, product development, marketing, and technology initiatives.
  • Support incident response and regulatory inquiries related to privacy matters, as needed.
