About The Position

The Deputy Editor, Travel + Leisure, is responsible for content creation (assigning, editing, writing, ideating) across print and digital for the world’s leading travel media brand. This would include, in addition to working 11 print issues a year, working on SIP and digital issues; developing new lines of revenue streams (events, newsletters) alongside the EIC and SVP/GM; and managing new signature tentpoles for the brand. This candidate should be deeply passionate about the travel industry, and nimble at working across multiple channels (including video) and on numerous platforms. In-person requirements and commitments include weekly meetings with travel industry executives, as well as attending events and speaking on behalf of the brand. This candidate should also be comfortable with traveling to conferences; writing and pitching regularly; and leading team meetings or standing in as a representative, in the absence of the EIC, with the sales team. Experience with and understanding of budgeting is also required. Hybrid 3x a week- (New York) In-office Expectations: This position is hybrid in-office, with the ability to work remotely for up to 2 days per week.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in journalism or communications, or equivalent training and/or experience.
  • 10-15+ years of experience working across print and digital at an editorial entity, preferably in travel, lifestyle, or luxury content.
  • Experience managing teams.
  • Strong writing and line-editing skills, awareness for best practices in publishing to print and digital.
  • A passion for travel and storytelling.
  • Trained media experience and fluency at speaking publicly.
  • Demonstrated ability to work quickly and thoughtfully in a high-output environment.
  • Excellent organization, and collaboration skills.
  • Familiarity with Woodwing, CMS system, and AirTable.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the senior editorial team on lineups; top-edit as needed.
  • Manage and mentor a group of editors who have various responsibilities, across the organization.
  • Write and/or edit three-to-four digital stories per month.
  • Maintain relationships with travel publicists and other industry figures, while representing T+L at events.
  • Work with the EIC and administrative team on budgeting and quality control.
  • Have an understanding of sales, business and marketing needs across the organization. Liaise with marketing on a weekly basis.
  • Speak publicly at Travel + Leisure events.
  • Work with EIC, SVP/GM, and social media team on LinkedIn and newsletter strategy.
