The Los Angeles Times is seeking a Deputy Editor of Audience and Platforms to oversee the digital operations of its news site. This role focuses on attracting and retaining online audiences, developing innovative storytelling approaches, and expanding the digital reach of the publication. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in digital journalism, audience growth strategies, and a deep understanding of various digital platforms.

  • Develop and execute strategies for high-impact coverage, including breaking news and special projects.
  • Oversee daily programming of the homepage, managing the homepage team to ensure timely, engaging and relevant content.
  • Lead audience engagement and growth strategies across platforms, including Facebook, X, Bluesky, Instagram, LinkedIn and Reddit.
  • Work closely with analytics teams to inform decision-making using data and metrics.
  • Collaborate with the video team to develop and distribute social video content for Instagram, TikTok and YouTube and to train newsroom staff on creating compelling social videos, vertical video and short reported pieces that can live on multiple platforms.
  • Plan and manage real-time news distribution through alerts, social media and video platforms.
  • Coordinate with newsroom leaders to carry out the best digital strategies during major events.
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with third-party content partners.
  • Collaborate across newsroom departments and with business-side teams to align audience strategies with organizational goals.
  • Foster a productive, inclusive and collaborative team environment.
  • At least seven years of experience in digital journalism, with a focus on audience growth and platform management.
  • Proven leadership experience, including managing teams in a fast-paced newsroom.
  • Strong expertise in analytics tools, metrics and data-driven strategy.
  • Proficiency with content management systems and social media platforms.
  • Experience handling breaking news and working under tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including developing productive, inclusive, collegial team cultures.
  • Commitment to upholding The Times' high standards of journalism and ethics.
  • Ability to embrace innovation and to adapt to a fast-changing media environment.
  • Knowledge of newsletters and partnerships is a plus.
  • Competitive salary range of $137,310 to $150,000.
