About The Position

The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Division of Infrastructure is currently seeking a Deputy Director for the Coastal Resiliency - Construction - Section 1. The successful candidate will be responsible for an annual capital program comprised of multiple construction projects; manage professional and technical construction staff responsible for overseeing capital-funded sewer, water main, roadway, climate resiliency, public space improvement projects; review construction plans; coordinate with sponsor agencies, private utility firms and stakeholders to resolve any operational field problems involving construction; ensure contract compliance and payment of contractors; schedule and perform final inspections and participate in various agency taskforces such as those related to new initiatives in change orders, project record keeping, quality assurance, etc. Moreover, the Deputy Director will act as the representative of the unit in meetings with utility companies, and city, state, and federal agencies when needed; train staff in executing the unit's responsibilities; participate in the recruitment efforts of the agency; and support the Assistant Commissioner and Director with the team's objectives as required.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, business administration, or public administration.
  • Five years of full-time satisfactory experience in planning, administering, or expediting engineering design or construction.
  • Two years of experience in an administrative, managerial, executive, or supervisory capacity.
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and nine years of relevant experience.
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to the above, with specific qualifications for substitution.

  • Robust supervision experience.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge relevant to infrastructure construction work.
  • Familiarity with NYC DOT, NYS DOT, NYC DEP specifications, MUTCD, and AASHTO standards.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the NYC infrastructure system and current engineering practices.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6 scheduling.
  • Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) credential.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Personal vehicle (optional).
