About The Position

This position will provide direct security services, diverse administrative, and clerical assistance to the Springfield Security Department. This position provides managerial oversight of security attendants, ensuring effective daily operations, training coordination, compliance with policy, and operational readiness within a facility – often at MDH institutions supporting forensic or high-security programs. This position works at the full level of a Security Manager I and will be involved in the training and scheduling of work assignments for all security personnel under the direction of the SHC Security Department. This position reports directly to the Security Attendant Manager II.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Correctional Training Commission regulation.
  • Four years of experience providing security to patients or inmates or youths committed by courts to psychiatric hospitals, correctional facilities or juvenile detention centers, one year of which must have been in a position that included supervisory responsibility.
  • Employees who have not already done so must meet the selection standards required and successfully complete the training prescribed by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission for a Correctional Officer during their probationary period, (Article 41, Section 4 301).
  • U.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien status
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • A completed background investigation
  • Oral interview
  • Physical examination.
  • Employees in this classification are subject to call 24 hours a day and, therefore, must have a telephone at their place of residence.
  • Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 06.01.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
  • Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
